Important Medication Reminders

  • All medications must be delivered to the Health Room by a responsible adult. Do not send medication with students.
  • Over-the-counter medications must be in the original, unopened container.
  • Prescription medications require physician and parent authorization.
  • Prescription medications must remain in the original pharmacy container with a current label.
  • Herbal and alternative medicinal products cannot be administered at school.
  • The first dose of any medication must be given at home.

Emergency Information

Each student should have a completed Emergency Information Form on file.

Please provide accurate phone numbers and emergency contacts so we can reach you in the event of illness or injury.

If any contact information changes during the school year, notify the school immediately.

Medication Procedures

  • All medication must be delivered by a parent, guardian, or approved adult over age 18.
  • School personnel cannot administer medication without proper authorization forms.
  • Medication brought by a student will not be administered.
  • Medication will be stored until proper documentation is received or picked up by a parent.

Prescription Medications

  • Parent and physician authorization is required.
  • Medication must remain in the original pharmacy container.
  • Current prescription labels must be attached.
  • Includes inhalers, EpiPens, and other prescribed treatments.

Over-the-Counter Medications

  • Must be in the original unopened container.
  • Must be labeled with the student's name.
  • Written parent authorization is required.
  • Authorization for Non-Prescription Medication form must be completed.

Allergies and Emergency Medications

Students with severe allergies or conditions that may result in anaphylaxis should have an Anaphylaxis Medication Authorization Form completed by both a physician and parent.

Parents should provide required emergency medications such as:

  • EpiPens
  • Benadryl
  • Inhalers
  • Diastat

Additional Information

  • Parents are responsible for monitoring medication expiration dates.
  • Expired medications cannot be administered.
  • Medication containing aspirin requires physician authorization.
  • Missed morning doses must be administered by a parent.
  • Emergency medications will accompany students on school field trips when appropriate.

Required health forms are available through Greenville County Schools or may be obtained from the Health Room.
