Welcome Elementary History & Facilities

A look at our past and present

Welcome’s Historical Timeline

Early Carolina Backcountry

The area known as Welcome was once part of the unexplored Carolina foothills, filled with forests, wildlife, and natural trails used by Native American travelers.

White Horse Road Formation

A historic ridge trail became a major travel route, later known as White Horse Road, used by settlers, wagons, and coaches.

The White Horse Inn Legend

According to local legend, an inn built along the route gave rise to the name “White Horse Road,” inspired by a beloved white horse.

1909 – First School Established

The first two-room school was built in the community, marking the beginning of formal education in Welcome.

1946 – Growing Community

Welcome became one of the largest high schools in the Greenville area as the community expanded.
