Principal's Message

United in Learning… but six feet apart

Dear Southside family,

Facing a global pandemic with creativity, grit, and hope, Southside High School continues to focus on our priorities of keeping our students safe while providing quality opportunities to ensure all students are college and career ready. We will welcome our Tigers back to in-person learning or virtually with guidelines designed to inform and inspire.

All students enrolled at Southside will share in the responsibility for the health of our entire student body, including students, faculty, staff, and our surrounding community. All students, teachers, and staff are required to wear face coverings throughout our building. Students can anticipate smaller class sizes and all classrooms have also been measured to ensure all students and teachers can maintain at least six feet distance. Additionally, designated traffic flow patterns will be implemented inside the school building. Students will follow the signs to ensure appropriate and safe hallway traffic flow.

The COVID-19 pandemic has changed the landscape of education and has impacted how we provide education to students. Southside will offer a comprehensive, tuition-free learning for virtual and in-person students. Southside High School (SHS) will offer a Full-time Virtual Academy (VirtualSHS), hybrid magnet academy (traditional or online), and a traditional in-person model during the 2020-021 school year. Students enrolled in VirtualSHS will remain a Southside High School student and be taught by SHS teachers.

Information is always evolving and as always, please check out our school’s website ( for the most up-to-date information. You may also call our Main Office at 864-355-8700. We encourage everyone in our community to share in the responsibility to keep each other healthy. I am looking forward to a great year!
