Message from Mrs. Overman
Welcome to Monarch! Home of the Monarch Marathoneers!
CONGRATULATIONS to Monarch students, parents, teachers, and our entire school community for being amazing! Monarch Elementary is one of nine schools in the state that was named as a finalist for the 2017 Palmetto’s Finest Schools Awards. Our school was chosen as a finalist following an extensive evaluation by educators and previous Palmetto’s Finest winners. Our first visit was based on student achievement, instructional programs, professional learning communities and school culture. Monarch has been recognized as a Palmetto's Finest winner!
In addition to this distinguished honor, Monarch has been named a TransformSC School. After submitting a detailed application and following an on-site visit by members of the SC Council on School Competiveness, we are being recognized for using innovative practices and meeting the Buck Institute of Education Gold Standard for project-based Learning.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for the privilege of serving your child and the school community as Monarch's principal. Monarch families are to be commended for your support and dedication to the educational process of all children. It is an honor to work with our dedicated faculty and staff to ensure a safe and nurturing learning environment where students thrive through an academically rigorous core curriculum and a project-based approach.
The Monarch Elementary family benefits from a school culture of high standards with individualized support for our students. Curriculum and syllabi are posted on our school site. Our active and dedicated PTA and SIC members support our mission and beliefs, volunteer countless hours on special projects and help us provide a nurturing school climate for our students. We reap the benefits of the active involvement and support of our school community and attendance at school events. This strong support is an important factor in the success of the Monarch.
We are proud of our heritage, students, teachers, educational programs and facilities. I enjoy watching our students develop into responsible citizens who will someday lead our communities as well as our nation. I invite you to come and visit our wonderful school where, truly, the students are our top priority.
It is with great pleasure and pride that I welcome you to Monarch Elementary. Monarch is the home of the finest students, staff and parents! Every single decision is made with the best interest of the child in mind .I am most proud to say that Monarch is the home of some amazingly strong community roots that not only keep our students grounded but will also enable them to soar long after they leave this incredible campus.
My background includes 29 years of combined experience as a teacher, assistant principal, and a principal. The hallmark of my educational experience has been my commitment to children, tenacity for solving problems quickly and efficiently, and my goals of excellence for myself and others. Throughout my years both in the classroom and as an administrator, I have remained a life-long learner and have placed student learning at the center of all school decisions. I have an open door policy and want all parents know their input is welcomed and celebrated. PTA and SIC are valuable components of our shared-decision making process. I value collaboration where our school community see themselves as partners in fostering student successes. We are fortunate to have such an enthusiastic and dynamic school culture. My belief is that a collaborative environment for meeting challenges and open communication among the school stakeholders is key.
