Girls on the Run

Girls on the Run is a new club, sponsored by the WMS School Counseling Deparment, that empowers girls to make healthy decisions, overcome obstacles, and make connections and friendships with other girls!  The season runs from September 15 through December 3, 2016.  Club meetings are held on Mondays and Thursdays from 3:45-5:15 p.m.  There are still a few more spots so sign up now!  The program fee is $199, which includes 21 sessions and the 5K entry fee.  Financial aid is available during online registration and payment plans are available on request.  Contact Ms. Dumit at 355-8512 or Ms. Puckette at 355-8537 for more information.  Click HERE for online registration. 

PTA Fundraiser Kicks Off!

The PTA will sell the Attractions Dining  Value Guide this year.  The goal of this fundraiser is to purchase a poster printer and laminator for the school.   The official Kick-Off is on Monday, September 19 during lunch.  Every student will go home with a coupon book to sell.  If you are unable to participate, please return the coupon book in its original condition immediately.

Learner Profile Recognition

Woodmont Middle School will honor eight students each month for exhibiting characteristics of the ten Learner Profile traits. Every month each team, Related Arts, and Special Education will nominate a student that represents the trait of the Learner Profile that is being represented. These students will be recognized with a certificate and have their name on the Learner Profile Wall of Fame.  One staff member or volunteer will also be recognized each month.

The Learner Profile for September is "Inquirer" and we congratulate these students who were selected!  Congratulations!!

Spirit Week September 26-30

Attendance Awareness Spirit Week is September 26-30.  Daily activities are designed to promote attendance awareness and good attendance practices.  All proceeds go towards incentives for perfect attendance throughout the school year.  Top participants are chosen each day and will receive a small treat at the end of the day.

MONDAY:  Spirit Day - wear school colors & spirit wear.  For 25 cents get a paw printed on your face or hand during lunch.

TUESDAY:  Twin Day - Dress like a twin with your friend!

WEDNESDAY: Professional Dress Day - Wear your Sunday best!

THURSDAY:  Tacky Day - How TACKY can you be?  Popcorn & soda will be sold at lunch for $1.00 each; candy sold for 25 and 50 cents each.

FRIDAY:  Hat Day - For $1.00 you can wear your favorite hat.  Everybody gets a freebie from Wendy's.

8th Grade Washington Trip Info

The 8th grade field trip to Washington, DC is in the works and it's a great opportunity for a myriad of learning experiences in four jam-packed days!  The trip is scheduled for May 27-30, 2017 with a tentative cost of $465, which includes transportation, lodging, entrance to all attractions, and all meals.  A non-refundable deposit of $70 is due Thursday, September 29, 2016.  Additional payments will be made on monthly schedule.  Click HERE for trip information and participant form.  Contact Glenda Hawthorne ( for more information.

Academic Assistance Being Offered

After-school academic assistance for English, Math, Science and Social Studies (Humanities) starts the week of September 13th.  The time is 3:30-4:30pm. Each day (Monday through Thursday) will be dedicated to a certain subject with a certified teacher in that area available to assist your child.   

The subject/days are as follows:
Monday- English (ELA)       Ms. Twigg - Rm 608
Tuesday- Math                   Ms. Newman - Rm 308
Wednesday- Science          Ms. Thornton - Rm 211
Thursday- Social Studies    Ms. Olson - Rm 302

This is a drop-in program; however, you must register your child (one-time only).  Your child may choose which day(s) they would like to stay depending on the subject area they need assistance in.  Students attending after-school assistance must come prepared with work to complete or they will be sent out of the classroom.  Please complete the registration form and have your child return it to the front office. 

Students must be picked up by 4:30pm.  If students are not picked up by 4:30pm they will receive a warning.  After the second time, they will not be permitted to attend after-school assistance for the remainder of the semester.

Sexuality Education Information

Sexuallity Education will be held at Woodmont Middle December 5-16 and January 23, 2016 - February 3, 2017.  Parents may preview the Sexuality Education materials in the media center November 14-18 from 8:00 -3:00 pm.  Click HERE for more information.

This program provides an opportunity to learn and develop parents' English Language skills.
