School Reports Released RMS SC Annual School Report Card Summary |
|
Dear Parent, Our School Report Card was recently released by the State Department of Education. We are pleased to report that for 2011-12, Riverside Middle School achieved an Absolute Rating of Excellent and a Growth Rating of Excellent. School and District Report Cards are no longer printed due to State budget cuts. The Report Cards are posted on our school district website at www.greenville.k12.sc.us. The Absolute Rating is based on results of Palmetto Assessment of State Standards (PASS) and End-of-Course tests for 2011-12 measured against target levels of performance. The Growth Rating indicates the progress of achievement scores for the same students from one year to the next. Report Cards also include our status toward meeting the new federal Elementary and Secondary Education ACT (ESEA) requirements. Our ESEA grade for 2011-12 was “A” Riverside Middle School continues to perform in the top 10% of all middle schools in the state of South Carolina including charter schools and academies. The South Carolina School Report Card and ESEA grade results can be confusing because a school or school district can score well on the Report Card and not earn a high ESEA grade. Why? Absolute and Growth ratings for School Report Cards are based on student achievement at all levels of PASS - Not Met through Exemplary - in all tested content areas, including Algebra I and English I End-of-Course scores. ESEA grades are based on a markedly different calculation using student achievement targets in English/Language Arts, Math, Science and Social Studies. ESEA targets are based on average student achievement and increase each year for each student subgroup. We recognize that these ratings are not the sole source of determining a school’s success. However, Our School Report Card is typically the first point of reference for prospective residents, employers and real estate companies. An accurate reflection of our “Excellent” academic achievement creates a stronger community for all of us. Thank you for partnering with Riverside Middle School to help us accomplish this achievement. If you have questions, please do not hesitate to call me. I look forward to working with you to ensure that our school continues to improve. Sincerely, Eric L. Williams |
