LIFELONG LEARNING GRADUATION
The two Adult Education Programs, Lifelong Learning and Satellite Diploma Program, held their 2014-2015 school year graduation on May 27, 2015 at Wade Hampton High School at 6:00 pm. Family, friends, husbands, wives, guests, and school board members celebrated the 65 graduates who marched during the one-hour ceremony. The graduates earned either a regular high school diploma or passed the national GED Test to earn a high school equivalent diploma. Many earned a WorkKeys certificate as well. A total of 116 students earned a diploma during the school year.
Lifelong Learning, through its GED Center and High School Units program offers students the opportunity to return to school and finish their education. Adult Education centers are the #1 drop-out/ retrieval programs for South Carolina.
Lifelong Learning offers students a way to realize their dreams and build a better future. Students are tested and counseled on which program is best suited for their needs. Instructors are experienced SC certified teachers who care about their students and want them to achieve their best.

Good News for South Carolina
South Carolina had the second highest GED pass rate in the Southeast. The GED Pass Rate for South Carolina went up again to 77.6, once again surpassing the National GED pass rate. Of the 32 states above the National Average of 72.2%, South Carolina was in the Top 10 in the number of candidates passing. Lifelong Learning's Sullivan Center campus houses one of seven stand-alone GED Testing Sites in South Carolina.
SC Adult Education Names the ESL Teacher of the Year
Stanley Schemainda was named 2011-2012 ESL Teacher of the Year. Mr. Schemainda is an Adult ESL instructor for both Lifelong Learning, Greenville County Schools Adult Education and Pickens County programs. Stanley, a native of Colombia, SA, and now a US citizen, graduated from USC Upstate and began teaching ESL classes at Lifelong Learning, bringing a sense of enthusiasm and commitment to his teaching and his students.
One student states, "...He (Mr. Schemainda) is creative and an extraordinarily good teacher. He loves his profession and shows a sincere interest and concern for the students. He has the ability to connect with them."
Another students comments, "..Mr. Schemainda is an outstanding person and teacher. He shows great passion for teaching, which makes me want to learn from him...His love for teaching is shown everyday in class......He is not only a great teacher, he is a good person and friend!"
GED Testing Center....A BIG SUCCESS!
The GED Center of Greenville County Schools was chosen in 2010 by the State Department of Education to be a pilot testing site for the GED exam. Lifelong Learning's Sullivan Center is an official GED Testing Center for the Upstate. The Sullivan GED Testing Center is located at the main campus at 206 Wilkins Street. Fees for taking the GED examination are $37.50 per subject test. One of the State Department test examiners said that "The GED Center at Sullivan Center is probably the finest testing site in South Carolina."
The 2014 GED® (General Education Development) test is a four-subject high school equivalency test that measures skills required by high schools and requested by colleges and employers. The four subjects are Science, Social Studies, Mathematical Reasoning, and Reasoning Through Language Arts. After you pass the GED® test, your diploma or credential will be issued by South Carolina Department of Education. The entire test takes 8.25 hours to complete.

Lifelong Learning Offers WorkKeys Upgrade
Lifelong Learning's Sullivan Center offers WorkKeys Upgrade Classes and the WorkKeys tests for the Upstate. WorkKeys® is an employment skills assessment system. Employers use WorkKeys® to measure workplace skills of employees and job applicants. Schools and colleges also use WorkKeys® to prepare students for the workplace.
You can earn the WorkReady SC Career Readiness Certificate (CRC) by taking the three assessments and scoring at least a “3” on each. The nationally recognized CRC certifies that you are WorkReady to employers. Being ready for work is very important to employers in the Upstate when they seek to hire new employees.
