Even with community based training outings finished; we have been busy this week. On Monday we had dog therapy with a puppy from the animal shelter; and, on Tuesday we had a special visit from members of our school board who came to recognize Nardia Lloyd, Carey Reinhardt and Maxine Brown. Those are our staff members whose quick responses most likely saved the life of one of our students several months ago when he choked on food he was eating while attending an event at the Bon Secours Wellness Center. They were definitely “Miracle Workers” that day, and lots of days both before and after.

Then on Thursday the Greenville Symphony sent percussionists, Jason Currin and Cassidy Reynolds, to perform for students; and, today over at Hollis everyone enjoyed their annual “water day”. On the main campus today  we had our annual Community Day celebration complete with representatives from EMS, Greenville Humane Society, the Police K9 unit, a cement truck, fire truck and a physical trainer. Cotton candy was provided by the PTA. Elizabeth Piper and her committee did a great job of planning and setting up for this event, and fortunately the weather cooperated.

During instructional periods this week classes investigated topics such as genetics, cooking, use of appliances and bike maintenance; and, our final newsletter for the year went out this week in both English and Spanish. Monday of next week will be a day off for everyone, and the day we come back will be our yearbook signing party on the main campus. Washington Center at Hollis’ Awards Day will be Tuesday, May 30; and, Graduation and Awards Day here on the main campus will be Thursday, June 1.

I hope you will go ahead and mark your calendars for our “Meet the Teacher” event here on the main campus from 1-3 on August 18, and the first day of school for students which will be Tuesday, August 22. Have a good weekend and we will look for everyone back on Tuesday of next week.
