I hope everyone has been enjoying the pre fall weather. It has made us here feel like the school year is really up and running. Challenge Day at Bob Jones University will be here before we know it, September 25, so if we have not yet received your child’s medical form, please get those in next week. GHS doctors will be here to conduct physicals in mid-September.
This week we have had our second fire drill and our first emergency responder drill, and the district has updated emergency evacuation plans for Washington Center based on the medical requirements of our current students. Additionally, therapists and nurses have been conducting training for staff members, and all adults at Washington Center are working through required safety videos. Always, the safety of our students is our first priority.
Sharon Russo is hard at work inviting guests and making arrangements for Family Night which will be November 5. We had a great turn out last year, and we are looking forward to this year’s event. Please mark your calendars and plan to join us for this fun and informative evening.
Yesterday we had two of our state legislators at school to hear about the Washington Center program and to tour the building. We had hoped to have more, but with Donald Trump in town, I guess some of the folks who had planned to come just ran out of time. Maybe we will get them here at a later date, and we appreciate Sarah Jane Tollison coming in to prepare refreshments and to join the discussion with our guests.
Please remember to send in or place online orders for the Cherrydale Farms items. This is a PTA fundraiser, and we are in hopes that folks may do a little early Christmas shopping. Also, we continue to ask that families complete the Free and Reduced lunch forms. This is important, even for families of homebound children or of ones who are tube fed.
Next week we will have PTA on Thursday here on the main campus at 12:30, and Monday, September 7, will be Labor Day, so there will be a school holiday.
Take care and have a good weekend.
