Community Day was a big success today. Many thanks to Amy Garbe and her committee, to volunteers from the Knights of Columbus and elsewhere, and to the community representatives who came. The students especially loved the police dog, the Humvee brought by the National Guard, and the snow cones, but everything was lots of fun for all of us.
Last night at the Salute to Education banquet Amy Garbe was honored as one of Greenville County Schools’ teachers of the year. Amy does a great job for us, and we were glad that she could take her niece along for her special event. On Tuesday, we had a group of students from North Greenville University here for a tour, and we are always pleased by the interest in special education and Washington Center that is expressed by students from neighboring colleges and universities.
PTA , SIC and Steering Committee met this week, and everyone is beginning to think ahead to next year. PTA will again fund the “Family Night” in November and two parent training sessions spread through the year. Sharon Russo did a great job with that initiative this year, and we are looking forward to what will be offered for 2015-2016. Meet the teacher will be August 17 at 1 pm, so go ahead and mark your calendars and plan to come.
Our teachers and paras are already signing up for summer training sessions, and a number of us were up at 5:30 am on Monday morning to make sure we got registered for this year’s technology conference. I understand that registration was closed and all sessions filled by 9:30 Monday morning, so we know it is a highly regarded conference; and, since 15-16 will be our refresh year, we want to explore everything possible in terms of technology.
Our yearbooks are in and they are great. We will be passing those out and sending them home next Friday after we have a book signing party. Also, a spring newsletter will be coming out before school closing.
We are moving ever closer to graduation and we will truly miss the folks, both graduating students and retiring staff, who will be leaving us this year. We hope all will come back soon and often for lots of visits.
Important dates to remember are:
Graduation June 3 and half Days June 3, 4, and 5.
I hope everyone will enjoy what is supposed to be a beautiful weekend. See you next week.
