We think we will be sending home tired children today in that our Riverside High School friends were here this morning getting to know the students they will be accompanying for Special Olympics this spring.  They danced and played with our kids, and most everyone seemed to have a great time.  Thanks to the 200 Riverside students who have volunteered to help with the Special Olympics event on April 8.

For those of you who may not have heard, Linda Thigpen’s mother passed away this week.   Her funeral was on Thursday, and I know everyone will want to keep Linda’s family in their thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

This week we got two of our drills out of the way.  We had both a tornado drill on Wednesday   and a lock down drill on   Thursday.    With practices such as these and now with our scan locking system securing the building, we hope we will be able to keep everyone safe should there ever be an emergency.

I want to reminder you again of the PTA parent training session with attorney, Don Clardy that will be held next week on March 18.  Mr. Clardy will talk with parents about legal matters that parents need to address as their special needs children grow up.  Lunch will be provided at no charge.  Please send back the reservation form your student brought home, if you will be able to attend.

One last time, I am going to ask families to complete the Free and Reduced Meal applications.  Even if your child is homebound, tube fed or for some other reason does not eat school lunches, we need you to complete the application.     Title One funds are allocated based on the percent of students who qualify for free or reduced lunch, and even if a student is homebound, he or she is counted in our total enrollment used to calculate our percentage.   If you have not submitted an application and are willing to do so, please contact your child’s teacher for a form, or apply online under Food Services.

Next week we will have SIC on Tuesday here on the main campus, and we will be continuing with IEP meetings. I hope everyone will have an enjoyable weekend and I look forward to seeing you soon.
