Amanda Wakely was honored during the Greenville County Schools annual Recognition Breakfast as the 2017-18 Washington Center Teacher of the Year. Mrs. Wakely joined the Washington Center staff in 2009 as a Para-Professional, and took over the Art teaching position in 2012. She uses impressive creativity to adapt art projects and skills to the abilities of students with special needs. Mrs. Wakely describes the rewards of her work, “It is one thing to watch a child create, but it is such an honor to be part of their process. When you realize the impact of what you can give your students is greater than the reward you receive, you are humbled. They truly teach me every single day not only to be a better teacher, but a better person.”
