Entries are due October 26, 2009
PTA
believes all children deserve a quality arts education. The PTA
Reflections Program is designed to enhance rather than replace that
arts education. It
provides opportunities for students to express themselves and to
receive positive recognition for their artistic efforts. When
children express themselves through words, pictures, music, dance,
film, and other art media, they grow intellectually; they learn to
analyze their thoughts and feelings.
Our
theme this year is “Beauty is….” All students –
kindergarten through 5th grade – have the chance to
create an original work of art in one of 6 categories: literature,
dance choreography, music composition, film production, photography
and visual arts (which
includes art forms such as drawing, painting, print making, and
collage).
The most entered categories are visual arts and literature. Don’t
be intimidated by the other arts categories! For music composition,
all a student needs to do is make up an original piece of music and
just play it on a piano or other instrument (you only have to record
it - you don’t have to write any music down)! Rules for all entries
can be found at
www.pta.org,
posted on the PTA window and in the school office. You may also
contact me at any time. As Reflections Chairperson, I am here to
answer your questions and provide guidance as your children create
their masterpieces! |
|
Students may enter as many entries as they like, even in the same
category!
Our
goal is to have every student submit at least one entry!
Every student who enters will
receive a certificate of participation and a special treat.
Reflections Program awards are given at
the school, council, district, state, and national levels. National
award–winning entries are showcased in the PTA Reflections Program
gallery at
www.pta.org.
Students who win at any level will also receive a special
breakfast in the spring along with certificates and a special prize!
Just remember -
you must have your entries turned in by Monday, October 26th.
So encourage your young artists to think about what beauty means to
them and to express it in their own unique way. Good luck!
