Robotics Club
Skyland Elementary’s VEX IQ Robotics Club, led by Mr. Edwards, gives students in grades 3-5 the opportunity to explore engineering, coding, teamwork, and problem-solving through hands-on robotics. Students in third and fourth grade build foundational skills by learning how to design, construct, and code VEX IQ robots. As students advance into fifth grade, they may compete as members of Skyland’s Skybots and Skybotics teams, representing the school in VEX robotics competitions. The club operates through most of the school year and is open to students through an application process. Third grade students are invited to apply in late August or early September for the upcoming season. Whether students are writing their first lines of code, rebuilding a robot to solve a problem, or preparing for competition, the goal of Skyland Robotics is to develop confident thinkers who can design, test, improve, and work together.
Skyland Singers
Skyland Singers is our school chorus open by audition to fourth and fifth graders. We perform for our Veterans Day program, our winter concert, our spring musical, and for community events. We also take one musical field trip each year to see musical performances. Our student musicians sing many song styles and work hard each week to perform with confidence. Students also have the opportunity to audition for State Honor Choir and Spring Sing, our district honor choir. We are proud of our Singers!
Safety Patrol
Safety Patrol is a special leadership opportunity for fifth grade students who are responsible, dependable, and ready to serve their school! Each morning, Safety Patrol members arrive early to open car doors, greet students, and help with breakfast in the cafeteria. There are two Safety Patrol teams that rotate each quarter, allowing students to serve for half of the school year while giving more fifth graders the opportunity to participate. Safety Patrol is a wonderful way for students to build leadership skills and make a positive difference at Skyland Elementary!
Bulldog Ambassadors
Bulldog Ambassadors include two "branches". The first, is our traditional Bulldog Ambassador roll, where fifth grade students will give tours of the building to new and perspective parents and students. These students will also welcome guests on special event days such as Career Day. Our newest branch will include fourth and fifth grade peer mentors who will mentor a younger student or student with special needs. Students will apply for this position by filling out an application to be reviewed by the school counselor. Students must have good behavior and be in good standing with their teacher and classwork.
Beta Club
Skyland’s Beta Club is an invitation-only club that recognizes students for achievement, character, leadership, and service. Students are invited based on strong academic performance and meet monthly to build leadership skills and complete service projects that make a difference in our school and community. Beta members strive to lead, serve, and make a difference! Mrs. Forrester, Mrs Lowder, and Mrs. Sullivan are the sponsors.
Drama Club
The Skyland Drama Club is a creative and exciting opportunity for our fourth and fifth grade students to discover the magic of theater! Led by Mrs. Johnson, Mr. Edwards, and Mrs. Burns, our Drama Club brings students together to act, create, collaborate, and have fun while preparing for an unforgettable spring performance. Our club isn't just about what happens on stage. Students have opportunities to explore a variety of roles, including actors and actresses, junior directors, stage crew, art and prop design, costuming, graphic design, and our very important “Geek Squad." Whether a student loves being in the spotlight or prefers working behind the scenes, there is a place for everyone to share their talents and contribute to our production.
Run Hard
Run Hard is an eight week running club for students in 2nd-5th grade that prepares them to run a 5K race (3.1 miles) in the spring. Students train after school at Skyland twice a week leading up to Race Day. There will be an emphasis on endurance training and Run Hard core values such as leadership, teamwork, work ethic, resisting negative peer pressure, perseverance, wise choices, honesty and respect. Students who consistently demonstrate these core values will be awarded a coveted Run Hard patch by Coach Taylor.
