6th grade Erin's Law Lesson – February 27th & 28th

In 2014 the South Carolina Legislation passed Erin’s Law, as part of Health and Safety Education. The purpose of the law is to ensure that all students Pre-Kindergarten through High School receive this prevention instruction during the academic school year. The intent of the law is to equip students with the knowledge and skills to remain safe from sexual assault and how to make a report if an assault occurs.

Instructional units were written as a resource guide for educators to implement Erin’s Law. These units are aligned with the South Carolina Academic Health and Safety Education. Lesson content varies from grade to grade. A copy of each lesson will be available at your child’s school for you to preview if you choose.

Over the next school year your child will be presented this lesson by a counselor. The lesson content is not part of sexuality education and only discusses age appropriate health and safety education.

If you have any further questions after you have previewed the materials please contact your child’s counselor.

Tdap Vaccine

Students entering the seventh grade, who have not received the Tdap vaccine by the beginning of next school year (August 2024), will not be allowed to attend school until they have received the vaccine and provided proof to the school nurse. South Carolina law requires that all students entering the seventh grade receive one (1) dose of Tdap vaccine. Tdap vaccine protects children from three serious diseases: tetanus, diptheria, and pertussis (often called whooping cough). State law began the requirement for the Tdap vaccination in the 2013-14 school year.
