Message from School Counselors

Your school counselors cannot wait to see you this year! The names of the counselors and their grade levels are below:

6th Grade Counselor - Laura Gibson
7th Grade Counselor - Courtney Lilliston
8th Grade Counselor and School Counseling Department Chair - Lauren Tenholder
Career Counselor - Amy Torlay
Intervention Counselor - Georgia Milligan
Greenville Mental Health Counselor - Ashley McAllister

A note about schedules:
All schedules will not be finalized until Ready to Roar and the 7th and 8th grade drop in. The only accurate schedule will be found at those school events.

If you are unable to attend one of those events, your child's schedule will be available the first day of school in their advisory class. Your child will be able to find their advisory class on the list at the top of each grade level hallway.

Individual Graduation Plan Meetings (IGPs):
IGP meetings are mandatory for each 8th grade student and their adults at home. During this meeting, you and your child will meet with a School Counselor to discuss High School scheduling, career centers, current grades and more. A schedule will be released early on in the school year. Please keep an eye out on all social media platforms and backpack.

Make sure to follow our school counseling Instagram account @hughesacadcounselors for any counseling updates, news and events!

Change of Information

To change your address, phone numbers or emergency contacts:
Use your Backpack account to update your contact information. You’ll need to scan a copy of a recent utility bill* or Change of Address Form. Please notify the school directly as you must provide two proofs of residency.

If your child will be a bus rider, you’ll also need to indicate that in Backpack or complete the Transportation Form, which is available on the district website.

*All address changes must include a current bill dated within past 30 days from either Duke Energy, Laurens Electric, Piedmont Natural Gas, Spectrum, or Greenville Water System. The bill must show the service address, not just the mailing address. If the bill is not in the parent’s name, please contact Guidance for additional information. Please bring paper copies to the Guidance Office or fax info to 355-6275. We cannot change your address without this documentation.

Questions? Please contact the Guidance Office at 355-6268. Thank you!

Mentor Program

Attention Rising 7th Grade Parents

Important Notice about Tdap Vaccinations: In accordance with South Carolina law, all students must have the Tdap vaccination prior to the start of their 7th grade school year. Tdap is a combination vaccine that protects against three potentially life-threatening bacterial diseases: tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis (whooping cough).

Hughes Academy of Science and Technology requires that the vaccination (or exemption) be completed and all immunization certificates turned in to the school before the student starts orientation for the 2024-2025 year. Students will not receive their schedule if the school does not have all of their correct documentation on file. We appreciate everyone who has already completed the Tdap requirements. If you have not, please be advised of this policy and complete the requirements as soon as possible.

Please do not wait until the start of your child's 7th grade school year. This must be on file with our nurses prior to the start of 7th grade. Please email documented proof of vaccination to Nurse Sarah, or fax it to 864-355-6275.
