Dear Bethel Families,
It has been a wonderful start to our school year here at Bethel Elementary School. We continue to celebrate the many ways our “Cardinals Fly High” in all facets of their lives and education. It is our goal to celebrate the accolades of our children frequently and we encourage you to follow us on our social media platforms, which are linked on our homepage. While it feels like the year has just begun, a lot has happened since we greeted you in August. Here are some highlights from our first half of the year.
-Our Burgers with the Bald Guy Open House event saw over 600 parents and students in attendance. We enjoyed time outside on a hot, but beautiful evening and built relationships while enjoying dinner, compliments of the PTA.
-Our Bethel Bash was a huge success as well! We had so many attend we had to pull out our old rolls of tickets from previous years so that everyone could purchase them to get in on the fun! I think I’m still water logged for the two hours I happily endured in the dunk tank.
-We unveiled our Bethel Bots program where students can check out the robots used in our Innovation and STEAM Labs in order to bring the magic of the classroom home either during the school week or over the weekend. I think our parents have had more fun than the students with this program.
-Our Innovation and STEAM labs have been a huge success thanks to Ms. Taylor and Mrs. Jackson! Their excitement for project based learning, collaboration, and technology have made these classrooms two of our favorite spots in the school.
-Our fifth grade, in company with Mrs. Tyner in our media center, designed and 3D printed ornaments that fit a Bethel theme in Fall 2019. The designs were then sold to our community members for $10.00 each. At the end of the drive, we had raised over $1,000.00 that went to support some of our Bethel families over the holidays.
-Every Friday we take the time via social media to recognize a cardinal who flies higher than the rest on their grade level. This honor is not focused on academics. Rather, we highlight the great work they are doing to serve others and their school. I encourage you to check our Facebook page each Friday at 5:00. It will warm your hearts when you see and hear about all the efforts our students take to improve the lives of those around them. It’s a highlight of my week!
-We began celebrating the excellent habits of our readers this year as well! Students who do a great job with their silent reading times have the opportunity to visit my office and enjoy a selection from my office during their reading time. The best part of my day is when I discover one of these readers that flies high and gets to visit my office for a good read or two. Feel free to stop by my Principal’s Library site and hear my take on the titles available to students now!
This has been a special year as my love for this school and its community grows deeper each day. Children are at the heart of our work and why we consider it an honor to call this place home for all of our professional lives. Thank you for entrusting Bethel Elementary with your child’s education. We know you think the world of your children, and we get to see each day why that is the case. Should you ever need anything, please don’t hesitate to contact me or any other member of the staff. We will be happy to help you out.
