Summer Reading is here. Be sure to log your reading on the forms below for your grade for the 2020-21 school year. For example, if you just finished first grade this past year, you are a rising 2nd grader. Our goal this week has two options. Option 1: Read for 20 minutes a day for five days and complete the digital reading log each day. Option 2: Complete 5 iXL lessons in reading and or math. If 50 students participate in either option, our reading challenge teacher will face silly string. Check out our summer reading video on our Facebook page to find out who the summer reading challenge teacher is this week. If your student wants to be featured in our next summer reading video, please email a photo of your student reading to email@example.com. So get ready, get set, read!
Greenville County Schools is asking ALL families who will have a student or students enrolled for the 2020-21 school year to complete a new Transportation Request Form. The form should be completed for EVERY student, including bus riders, car riders, walkers, bicyclists, and daycare bus riders.
It is very important to complete the form so GCS can efficiently plan for how students will arrive and depart campuses daily. It is particularly important for students who have moved or changed schools.
In order to ensure school bus transportation on the first day of school, forms are due by Friday, July 31. School bus requests submitted after July 31 will not be routed until after Labor Day.
Beginning June 8, FANS will serve meals at all elementary schools, with the exception of Bryson Elementary, Chandler Creek, and Summit Drive. Bryson Elementary families can receive meals at Golden Strip Child Development Center. Meals will be provided Monday through Thursday from 10 am - 12 pm each day. On Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays, each student will receive one breakfast and one lunch. On Thursdays, each student will receive eight meals – four breakfasts and four lunches. FANS will continue this schedule through Thursday, August 6.
Due to COVID-19 social distancing requirements, meals will be provided on a to-go basis only and will be served in the school’s student drop-off line. There will be no need for parents to exit their vehicles to obtain the meals. USDA has provided flexibilities to allow the distribution of meals to adults to take home to children. Meals may be distributed to adults when children are not present if the adult is able to demonstrate proof of the child’s identity. Valid forms of identification may include, but are not limited to school identification card, school report card, child’s passport, birth certificate, government-issued child identification card, or any document proving parent/guardian identity and relationship to the child, such as an adoption decree, doctor, clinic, or hospital record, religious record, or daycare center record. Individuals with questions about the summer feeding program should contact the Food and Nutrition Services office at (864) 355-1246.
