Major Joseph Windley – Senior Aerospace Science Instructor
Major Windley is a graduate of North Carolina A&T University, and received his Masters Degree from Central Michigan University.
He is a Senior Instructor Navigator with over 3000 flying hours, and has received numerous
military decorations and awards. The
high point of his Air Force Career was when he was selected Top Logistic Plan
and Programs Branch Chief in the Air Force in 1993. Major Windley has also been selected as Teacher of the Year at Southside
High, and has received the Greenville County Sally Mae First Class Teacher’s
Award. He is married and
has two sons.
Senior Master Sergeant Kathy Durman –
Aerospace Science Instructor
Sergeant Durman started teaching at SHS in October 1998.
She retired after 20 years of active duty Air Force in 1996.
Her Air Force career included 18 years as a recruiter for the Air Force
Reserve and 2 years as a communication specialist.
Sergeant Durman has a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology from Thomas Edison State
College in New Jersey. She has a
13-year-old son, Austin, who is currently attending Hughes Academy.
Master Sergeant Derrick Brown – Aerospace
Science Instructor
Sergeant
Brown started teaching at SHS in August 2002. He
retired after completing a successful 21-year career as a Weather Craftsman in
the Air Force. Sergeant Brown graduated from
Baker High School and excelled through 4 years of JROTC, where he was co-captain
of the drill team. As a vocalist,
he was involved and toured with Tactical Air Command’s “Stars of Sound” in
1989. Sergeant Brown has an Associate’s
Degree in Weather Technology and a Bachelor’s Degree in Business
Administration from Saint Leo University, and a Master’s Degree in Systems
Management from Florida Institute of Technology.
He has an 8-year-old son, Darius. Sergeant
Brown and his family actively participate in the Ministry of the Rock Church of
Greenville where Sergeant Brown is the Superintendent of Sunday School and
Worship Leader.
