Mrs. Taylor is May's Teacher
Who Makes Magic
Culinary Arts teacher, Mrs. Taylor, was chosen Magic 98.9's Teacher Who Makes Magic for the month of May. Mrs. Taylor was nominated by Briar Thibault who wrote:
Mrs. Taylor deserves this
because she cares so much about where we will end up in life and she
makes sure we will get there! I believe she is about the only
teacher who still cares if we make it, and I don't know how to pay
her back...please make Mrs. Taylor your Teacher Who Makes Magic!!! DCC Receives $25,000 Grant for Solar House Donaldson Career Center received a $25,000 grant from AdvanceSC for a two-year dual construction and welding project called, "Grasping Solar Energy." "Our construction class will have hands-on instruction that will include how to size a solar collector and use a photo voltaic array," said Randy Granger, construction science instructor. "Students will learn how to calculate the amount of BTU's available and estimate the total amount of energy that will be collected and used. They will also install a photo voltaic array that collects electrical energy to run lights and small appliances. This will make the house begun last year by the construction students solar powered." Welding students will learn to estimate materials using prototypes, specifications and drawings while building a furnace that runs on solar energy from scratch. The furnace will also include a controller, fan, cone, and motor. Knowledge of alternative energy in the construction and welding sectors will be invaluable for their future. We are thrilled and honored to have this grant. It will allow our students to learn how to use solar energy and technology in their professional lives. Watch video of solar house. Donaldson Career Center Receives Palmetto Gold Award The Palmetto Gold Awards Program recognizes and rewards schools with the highest levels of student academic achievement and the fastest rates of improvement based on their 2008 state report card’s absolute and improvement ratings.
