Congratulations SHS Forensic Team and Coach Bynum! At
Districts Cornesia Jefferson and Drew Caldwell qualified for Nationals in
Duo Interpretation and Emilee Anders and Meg Turlington qualified in Public
Forum Debate! Team members who advance to the final round were Rohan
Shilotri-4th place-United States Extemporaneous Speaking, Megan Tone- 5th
Place-Humorous Interpretation, and Meg Turlington- 5th place-International
Extemporaneous Speaking. Team members who advanced past the preliminary
rounds include: Cynthia Chen/Samantha Jaeger- Public Forum Debate (Semis),
Jared Marr-International Extemporaneous Speaking (Semis), Rishi Pandya-United
States Extemporaneous Speaking (Semis), Tony Tran-Lincoln Douglas Debate
(Quarters), JeVarus Howard/Jacob Young-Duo Interpretation (Quarters),
Kaushal Vadhar-United States Extemporaneous Speaking (Quarters), Stephanie
Hoo-United States Extemporaneous Speaking (Quarters) and Golsa Yazdy/Neda
Mofrad-Public Forum Debate.
The Southside Speech and Debate Team took the 4th Place
Sweepstakes Award at the SCFCA State Tournament March 3-5, 2006. Tournament
award winners were Quarterfinalists Cynthia Chen/Samantha Jaeger - Public
Forum; Semifinalists Neda Mofrad/Golsa Yazdy - Public Forum; Meg Turlington/Emilee

on their overall third place sweepstakes win at the Riverside High School
2005 Warrior Speech and Debate Invitational. SHS placed third out of twenty
schools from North and South Carolina. Humorous Interpretation: Megan Tone-
1st Place; Children's' Literature: Meera Mohan-1st Place, Susi Wolff- 2nd
Place; Duo Interpretation: Drew Caldwell/ Cornesia Jefferson-2nd Place;
Extemporaneous Speaking: Rohan Shiltori-2nd Place, Meg Turlington-3rd Place,
Kaushal Vadhar-5th Place; Impromptu Speaking: Jared Marr-3rd Place; Lincoln-
Douglas Debate- Daniel Birbal-4th Place and Public Forum Debate: Golsa Yadzy/Neda

The Southside High School Forensic Team won second place
overall at the First Annual Shamrock Invitational at Eau Claire High School
in Columbia, South Carolina. The following students placed in the top six of
the various events: Drew Caldwell/Cornesia Jefferson 1st in Duo
Interpretation, Tarsis Martins/Brenda Ibarra 4th; Drew Caldwell 2nd in
Impromptu Speaking, Jared Marr 5th; Cornesia Jefferson 4th in Oral
Interpretation, Kristan Pitts 5th; Jared Marr 3rd in Extemporaneous
Speaking, Emilee Anders 5th and Rishi Pandya 6th.
The Southside Speech and
Debate Team, coached by Erickson Bynum, placed second overall out of 15
schools at the Pinecrest Invitational Speech and Debate Tournament in
Southern Pines, N. C., Saturday, Nov. 5. In Oral Interpretation Kristan
Pitts placed 1st and Monticue (Lamar) Webb, 2nd. Brandon Barber placed 3rd
in Dramatic Interpretation and in Duo Interpretation, Drew Caldwell and
Cornesia Jefferson took 2nd place and Theasha McCullough and Laeticia
Williams placed 5th. Drew Caldwell and Cornesia Jefferson placed 4th and
Theasha McCullough and Laeticia Williams placed 5th in Impromptu Duet
Acting.
