SHS Student Council Sponsors Blood Drive
Attention all students and faculty members, the spring blood drive sponsored by the Student Council Association in conjunction with the American Red Cross has been rescheduled and will be held Thursday, April 9th. If you are interested in donating, please sign up with Ms. Richardson in room 114. Eligible donors must be 17 years old and weigh at least 110 lbs. Anyone age 16 who would like to donate should pick up a parental consent form from Ms. Richardson in room 114. A parental consent form must be completed before anyone age 16 can sign up to donate. All donors will receive a t-shirt.
Attention SENIORS and parents of SENIORS!! If you are interested in being recognized as a completer of a major, please contact your school counselor today. Seniors may be recognized at various graduation related events if the course requirements for completion of a major have been met. Click HERE to download an application. Deadline for submission is May 1, 2015.
SHS Check Policy
As we prepare to close the school’s fiscal year accounting records, students and guardians are advised that all money transactions with the school (fees and dues) are to paid with cash or a money order starting March 27, 2015. Checks will no longer be accepted. We apologize for any inconveniences this policy may cause. Thank you, Southside High School Administration
SHS Forensics News
A huge CONGRATULATIONS goes to the Southside HS Speech and Debate Team on a FANTASTIC showing at the 2015 South Carolina National Speech and Debate Association District (National Qualifying) Tournament at Riverside HS this past weekend. The team completed the last South Carolina tournament of the year by winning its 8th consecutive overall SC District Championship. The team also won awards as the top school in the speech, debate and congress categories and as a result of all of this success, 15 students qualified to attend the National Tournament in Dallas, Texas, this summer. Special shout-outs go to senior Rahul Raghavan for winning Lincoln Douglas and Congressional Debate (House One), Sophomore Hasna Karim for winning both International and Domestic Extemporaneous Speaking and Freshman Chase Garrett for winning in the Dramatic and Duo Interpretation categories. New State Test Changes Coming to SC Schools
New laws passed by the South Carolina General Assembly have resulted in new tests that will be administered during the spring of 2015 throughout our state. The new tests are ACT Aspire™, ACT Workkeys® and The ACT®. All other tests, such as SCPASS for science and social studies in grades 4-8, and end-of-course exams in middle school and high school, remain the same for the spring of 2015. SHS Symphonic Band Receives Superior Rating
Congratulations to the SHS Symphonic Band for making school history by receiving a Superior Rating on stage at the 2015 South Carolina Band Directors Association Concert Festival. This is the first Superior rating in the history of the Southside Symphonic Band. Special thanks goes to Sgt. Gause for providing transportation for the event.
