Southside Receives Safety Award
Lead by Mr. Ludley (2014-2015 Crisis Administrator) and everyone’s diligent efforts in making sure that our is school safe, Southside was awarded the 2015 High School Safety Award on Tuesday, October 5, at the Principals’ Meeting. In addition to a banner, the school also received a check for $500. Please click on the link below to read about the award.

Southside High School finished 5th during first round voting in the Carolina Mascot Challenge. The Tigers advance to the second round which runs from September 28-November 1. All stakeholders are encouraged to click on the link below to vote for SHS. Only the top four (4) schools will advance to the final round.

SHS Speech and Debate
Congratulations to the Southside HS Speech and Debate Team on an outstanding showing at the 2015 National Big Brass Round Robin as well as the National Holy Cross Navy & Old Gold Debate and Speech Exhibition Tournament held on the campuses of the University of New Orleans and the Holy Cross School in New Orleans, Louisiana. The team was received the Brother James McDonnell, C.S.C. Award for Overall Excellence in Forensics and the Charles DiGange Award for Overall Excellence as the school with the most outstanding overall performance. Special salutes go to Chase Garrett for winning the Brother Aiden O'Reilly, C.S.C. Debating Society's "1922 Award" for outstanding Individual Student Performance and to coach Erickson Bynum for receiving the Brother Melchior Polowy, C.S.C. Excellence in Coaching Award. Star Teacher of the Month
Congratulations to Mrs. Moore-Smith for being the September Star Teacher of the Month! “Katie Moore-Smith is devoted to the students of Southside High School, both inside and outside of the school building. She is committed to increasing student achievement in mathematics and works diligently to incorporate strategies to help the students achieve their fullest potential as a math student. She has given countless hours of support in the growth and achievement of the Cross Country team. She goes above and beyond to make a difference in the students’ lives.”
The Regional Workforce Advisor for the Greenville Region is hosting a free SAT/ACT workshopon Saturday, October 10, 2015 at the University Center in Greenville from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Onsite registration begins at 8:30 a.m. The session is for students in grades 8th-12th. The instructor for the course is Alex Tisdale of SC Test Prep. SC Test Prep has successfully prepared thousands of students with test taking strategies for taking either the SAT or ACT. The PSAT will be held on Wednesday, October 14. All sophomore students will be tested. Juniors wishing to take the PSAT to be eligible for the National Merit Scholarship program must pay Mrs. Webb $15 in the front office by Friday, September 25.
SHS Speech and Debate
Congratulations to the Southside HS Speech and Debate Team on a fantastic showing at the 2015 Carolina Kickoff held at Riverside HS this past Saturday. Southside, once again, finishes the competition as the overall champions. Special salutes go to junior Hasna Karim for winning the "Iron Warrior Award" as the Individual Tournament Champion and to junior Jordan Redd and freshman Kobe Watts for not only winning first place in the novice division of duo interpretation but for winning first place in the varsity division as well. This is certainly a very nice way to start off the competition season. Click HERE for individual results.
The GE Volunteers will once again offer after school tutoring on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4-5:00 p.m. in the Media Center beginning Tuesday, September 29. Students will receive one-on-one academic assistance in the core subjects. Teachers are asked to make recommendations based on 1st quarter progress report. Recommendations forms are due September 25th.
