Congratulations to the SHS Speech and Debate Team on a FANTASTIC showing at the 2014 George Mason University Patriot Games National Speech and Debate Competition this past weekend. With 150 very competitive schools in attendance, the mighty tigers finished the weekend in 4th place overall. Special salutes go out to Rahul Raghavan for reaching the final round of Lincoln Douglas Debate (2nd place) as well as to Chase Garrett and Kendal "Drew" Samuel for reaching the final round of Duo Interpretation (2nd place). Honorable mention goes to Tyler Kelly who advanced beyond the preliminary rounds in four categories (Dramatic Interp, Duo Interp, Prose Reading & Storytelling).

Sexuality Education Begins
Sexuality Education instruction will take place from December 17th, 2014 to January 28th, 2015 through PE 1 and ROTC 1 classes. All students in these classes will participate. Parents will have the option of previewing curriculum materials from December 8th - 16th at Southside High School. Sexuality Education brochures were sent by the district to 9th grade parents at the end of July. We will also have extra copies on hand. If a parent wishes to exempt their child from Sexuality Education, then the parent must hand-deliver the signed exemption form to the front office. If a student is exempt, then he or she will receive alternate book assignments to complete during Sexuality Education.
SHS Students Receive a Perfect Score on SAT

SHS Cross Country
Saturday, December 13, the school is hosting the inaugural Tacky Sweater 5K and 1-Mile Fun Run. Jonathan Smith, head coach, is encouraging participants and spectators to wear their tackiest holiday sweater for the run. The event is sponsored by Run In and participants can register online at www.go-greenevents.com/tackysweater5k or Run In on Augusta Street in Greenville. The top 3 male and female finishers in the 5k will each receive Run In gift certificates and each 5k entrant will receive $10 off at Run In, and a Tacky Sweater 5k mug.

ESEA Accountability Grade Released
