About the Guidance Department

Guidance counselors are professionals trained to assist parents and students in scheduling and career choices. Counselors do personal, academic, and career counseling in a variety of ways – individually, in small groups, and in whole classrooms when possible.

Counselors are responsible for the following:

  1. Referral to and coordination with community service organizations.
  2. Helping determine types of diplomas.
  3. Information distribution on courses, testing, registration, colleges, financial aid, etc.
  4. Helping with SAT, ACT, and PSAT registration.
  5. College scholarship and financial aid counseling.
  6. Record services for graduates and Sr.s applying for college as well as permanent record keeping for all students.
  7. Determine eligibility for graduation.
  8. Coordinating teacher and parent conferences.
  9. Student orientation and registration.
  10. Career testing and advisement.
  11. Assisting with student scheduling and course registration.
  12.  Counseling with teachers concerning students who need assistance.
  13. Handling schedule changes – no changes may be
made after the fifth day of class.

Counselors encourage students and parents to take advantage of the services the guidance department offers. Parents may contact counselors by calling the school and setting up an appointment. Students can go by the guidance office and request to see a counselor or ask one of their teachers to help coordinate a visit to a counselor.

Please see pages 5 and 6 in the Student Handbook for additional information including promotion and graduation requirements.

In order to accomplish this goal we will be sharing certain student information with the National Student Clearinghouse. If you prefer not to have your student's info shared with the national clearinghouse please complete and return the opt out form to Guidance before May 25. Seniors have also received a copy of this information.

Senior Advisory

Senior Advisory is a new way for seniors to meet with all the counselors every 3 weeks. Seniors have already received a folder with senior information and tasks necessary for college applications and scholarships. They already know about senior supplies, graduation practices, and all report card/progress report dates. In the folder, explanations of all the state scholarships were included. Each session will add important information about colleges, scholarships, careers, military choices, financial aid and much more. In addition to the seniors receiving copies of the newsletters, parents can also click on the newsletter link to ensure that all the information the student receives is accessible to parents at home.

Click on the powerpoint presentations and pretend you are with us at these meetings. We hope this new service from guidance will help the seniors and senior parents to have the most up-to-date information and easy access in a scheduled format to ask questions.

The following links require Internet Explorer 6.0 or higher and are large presentations. A fast broadband connection is suggested. You may also need to allow the ActiveX extension to be installed in order to view the presentations.
