The Governor's
School for the Arts began in 1981 with a
Summer Honors Program held on the
campus of Furman University.
Since that time, thousands of
students have benefited from the
school's rigorous arts training by
participating in master classes,
private studio lessons, individual
and ensemble study, seminars,
and workshops. Today, the
school has grown to include the Academy
and Preparatory Dance Summer
Programs, Outreach, Graduate Intern
Program for South Carolina
Educators and a Residential School. Utilizing
the state's
rich cultural heritage and diversity, the Governor's School for the
Arts and Humanities serves as a
laboratory for developing new and
innovative concepts and programs in
the arts, humanities and other
academic
studies.

J.L. Mann High School Academy offers an array of
Advanced
Placement courses taught by highly qualified instructors.
A number of these faculty members hold doctorate degrees
and have taught at the college level. Maximum use is made of
technology in AP classes, as well as the mathematics
courses which are preparatory to AP. Computers, as well as
hand-held technology (graphing calculators and
calculator-based laboratories), have become an ever-increasing
part of the learning environment at the school.

Southside
High/Center for International Studies offers the
International Baccalaureate and International Studies Programs.
The International Baccalaureate Program is a rigorous
pre-university course of study that features a unique
international cross-curricular focus and exceptionally high
standards of achievement.
The International
Studies Program is a four-year pre-university
course of study that includes emphasis on speaking a foreign
language, an interdisciplinary approach to teaching,
opportunities for overseas study, an exchange program with
foreign students, and a culturally diverse student body and
faculty.
