The mission of our school library media program is to ensure that students and staff are effective users of ideas and information.

Every School Day Can Be Your Child's “Library Day”

Cherrydale’s library media center (LMC) operates on a fixed / flexible schedule. This allows all our students, staff and parents access to our LMC resources and media specialist throughout the school day. Second thru fifth grade students, either individually or in small groups, may come daily to check out books or do research turning every school day into their “library day.” Kindergarten and 1^st grade classes have fixed library times during the first semester. This allows our younger students time to become familiar with the media center personal and procedures and develop an appreciation for books before coming to the media center individually or in small groups during the second semester. Classes for all grades are scheduled into the library media center when use of the LMC resources fits into the teachers’ lessons and may be scheduled for more that one day at a time.

South Carolina Book Awards

We encourage our students to participate in the South Carolina Picture Book Award Contests fro Kindergarten thru 2nd graders and the South Carolina Children's Book Awards Contest for 3rd thru 5th graders. Students who read at least 3 of the books on their grade level South Carolina reading lists will be able to vote for their favorite book during the second week of February. The winners will be announced at the South Carolina Association of School Librarians during the first week of March. Encourage your child to read these books!
