Media Specialist:
My name is Carolyn Page, and I have been a media
specialist for 35 years. I attended East Tennessee State University in Johnson City,
Tennessee where I received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Education /
Elementary Education in 1971 and a Master of Arts degree in Library Service in
1973. My
first experience as a media specialist was at Chapel Grove Elementary near Gastonia, North
Carolina. After 3 years I moved to Charlotte, North Carolina where I was
the media specialist at Enderly Park for 9 years and at Devonshire
Elementary for 2 1/2 years. By then I was married to Howard Page and had a daughter, Katie. We moved
to Asheville, North Carolina where my daughter and I became involved with
parent co-operative schools -- The Caring Place Co-operative and Children’s
Grammar School. In 1990, we moved to Greenville, South Carolina, and I became the
media specialist at Cone. In 2004-2005, Cone Elementary and San Souci
Elementary Schools were combined to create Cherrydale Elementary School, and
we moved into our new building at 302 Perry Rd., Greenville, S. C.
After my first year as a library media specialist, I knew I was in the right
career. I enjoy getting students "hooked" on books and
helping them develop the research skills to locate the information that they
will need in this changing world.
Honors:
In 1993-1994 the staff
honored me as “Cone Elementary Teacher Of the Year”. Mrs. Black
nominated me for 2002-2003 and 2005-2006 South Carolina Association of School Librarians School
Library Media Specialist of the Year Award. Our beginning-of-the-year
Media Center Brochure received the National School
Public Relations Association (SCNSPRA) Award of Excellence - Special Purpose
Publication for 2004 and 2005.
In addition to my duties as media specialist, I serve as our school's webmaster for the Cherrydale web
site. Our web site has been the recipient of the 2002-2003 and 2003-2004 Golden Web Awards which were presented by The
International Association of Web Masters and Designers; The Teacher's Corner
