A Visit From the Caps For Sale Peddler
|
 |
During the week of September 20, 2004 the 5K and first
grade classes were treated to a visit by the peddler from the book, Caps
for Sale by Esphyr Slobodkina. Wearing his trade mark cap and mustache
the peddler read the book to the students, and they helped him by acting out the
monkey part of the story and coloring a cap for him. (The peddler is actually
Miss Brackin, our media assistant, having an identity crisis).
Review of Caps For
Sale by Esphryr Slobodkina
This story, which was first published in 1940, is about a
peddler who sells caps. He carried his wares on the top of his head. You can
imagine what a sight he made with bunches of caps in varied colors piled on his
head! One day he sits down under a tree to rest with his caps still atop his
head and that's when the "monkey business" begins! Monkeys steal his caps
and go up into the tree. They won't give the caps back, but they do copy
whatever he does, so he tricks them by throwing his own cap on the ground. They
copy him, and do the same with their caps.
