Reminders on Contagious Illnesses

In an effort to decrease the spread of contagious illness at school, the school district would like to remind you of the following:

If you have questions concerning your student’s health, please contact the school nurse. Thank you for your assistance in decreasing the spread of illness.

School Exclusion List

Each year we are required by the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control to provide parents with a School Exclusion List. This list includes information regarding illnesses with students and under what circumstances it is necessary to keep a student out of school due to personal illness. Please click below for a Brochure and the School Exclusion List.

School Exclusion List

Prescription Medication

  1. All PRESCRIPTION MEDICATIONS must have the physician’s AND parent/guardian’s signatures on Prescription Medication Form.
  2. Medication must be in the original container, and have PHARMACY LABEL, with correct administration instructions (that is the same as on the Prescription Medication Form).
  3. Expired medication will not be accepted.
  4. Parent/Guardian is responsible for knowing the expiration date of any medication brought to school, and replacing the medication before the expiration date. Nurses will not administer expired medications.
  5. If the student will be carrying EMERGENCY medication (inhaler, EPI PEN) the Authorization for Self-Administration form must be completed and signed by MD and parent/guardian. Parents and student should sign the Authorization to Self-Administer form.
  6. Anaphylaxis Medication Authorization Form

Over the Counter Medications

  1. Parent/Guardian must complete and sign the NON-PRESCRIPTION medication form.
  2. Medication must be in a sealed container – new bottle, no large sizes, labeled with student’s name.
  3. Parent or legal guardian must bring the medication to school. Students are not allowed to deliver/carry medication to school.
  4. Medication will be administered per label instructions. Over-the-counter medications may not exceed label directions.
  5. Expired medication will not be accepted.
  6. Parent/Guardian is responsible for knowing the expiration date of any medication brought to school, and replacing the medication before the expiration date. Nurses will not administer expired medications.
  7. No medication containing aspirin will be administered.

Tdap Immunization Required for Rising 7th-11th Grade Students

Rising 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th, and 11th grade students must have the Tdap vaccination or their parent/guardian must submit an objector’s statement to their child’s school prior to the first day of school, Tuesday, August 22.

Students not meeting the Tdap vaccination requirement will not be allowed to attend school on the first day. Students new to Greenville County from other South Carolina counties or other states are granted a 30-day exemption from the date of the student’s enrollment.

The Tdap vaccine protects against diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussis (whooping cough). State Law began the requirement for the Tdap vaccination in the 2013-14 school year. The Tdap vaccination is given by health providers, many pharmacies, and the Greenville County Health Department. For additional information, please contact the Health Department at 282-4100.
