The River
by Anna, 5th Grade
As I sit thinking on the large, fallen tree, I watch the sparkling river flow under fallen trees. As it flows over the smooth rocks it’s as if it’s trying to fly. I can see the sun glisten and shine on the water as it races around the corner. I can hear the rush of the river whisper to me as it races to its unknown destiny. Flying through twists and turns, Never to be found again. As my feet sway in the cool, soothing water, I think about how the river has changed. It hasn’t. It can’t.
Fire
by Philip, 5th Grade
The majestic burning light That keeps us warm The flames that ignite Like a spiky mountain Shooting smoke through the chimney Like an angry dragon The majestic burning light Sending us to a peaceful sleep.
Rain
by Madison, 3rd Grade
Rain sounds like kitten paws going down the stairs. Rain smells like a fresh start of the world. Rain feels like tears running down my face. Rain looks like little balls falling from the sky. Rain tastes like fresh water from the mountains.
All I Need is a Beautiful Hat
by Laren, 2nd Grade
I don’t need this. I don’t need that. All I need is a beautiful hat. One that is silver or one that is blue. One with ribbons and feathers, too. One that is gorgeous and pretty. Yes, it will look outstanding on me. It should be laced, or should it be knitted? Don’t you dare leave until all hats are fitted. Maybe a scarf on the back, hanging low. Or maybe a big, bright, glorious bow. It will have flowers. Yes, siree! Flowers as big as you and me. My hat will be big, my hat will be small. My hat will be short, my hat will be tall. My hat will have stars and curlicue lines. If it has those things, It should look mighty fine! I don’t need this. I don’t need that. All I need is a beautiful hat!!
Fat Cat
by Wilson, 5th Grade
Big and fat, my fat cat Really doesn’t care About anyone or anything or Who or what or where. Sweet and fluffy, my best friend He always makes me smile. Especially when he curls up on top of me Or a big old soft clothes pile.
My Hero
by Stephanie, 5th Grade
You were watching me as I played. Thanks for telling me the truth. Telling me it would be alright when I cried, For catching me every time I fell, Being there when you weren’t needed. Everything you did I will never forget. You will always be in my heart no matter what happens Because I will never have a hero like you.
