Student Spotlight

Artist in Residence 2016-2017

Oakview's Artist-in-Residence program is designed to bring culture and the arts to elementary students using a hands-on approach. Students participate in classes with various types of artists while enriching the current curriculum in art and music.

Darcy Grimes visited Oakview in January 2017 to work with the Third grade students to make music out of cardboard, aluminum foil, and shower curtains as part of a STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and math) integrated unit!  Students used Makey Makey technology (search on You Tube to learn more) as they created, coded, and performed songs on their homemade instruments!  Click here to see the excitement of this real world activity for students.
