Oakview receives United Way Campaign of Excellence Award!              

                                   

Congratulations to Oakview faculty and staff for receiving a 2015-2016 Campaign of Excellence Award from Greenville County United Way.  The award recognizes 100% of the faculty and staff who participated in the campaign with a total of $9,508 pledged!

                                                                                                                                        

Oakview Selects Teacher of the Year for 2016-2017            

   

Congratulations to Mary Downing, first grade teacher, who has been named Oakview Elementary Teacher of the Year for 2016-2017!  As a child, Ms. Downing knew she wanted to become a teacher.  In 2005, she graduated from the University of South Carolina with a Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education. She grew up in Charleston and taught first grade in Summerville for 8 years. She has been here in Greenville for the past year and a half. She enjoys being outside and often goes hiking and camping with friends and family.

 

Challenge Class School Salute

                                      

On Monday, October 5th, the Oakview Elementary fifth grade Challenge classes traveled to the beautiful and historic Biltmore Estate! Students participated in an architectural unit of study and visited the structure to enhance their class unit.  The classes are led by Mrs. Brookie and Ms. Young.  Students were recognized on Dale's School Salute on October 19th.                                             

Oakview Volunteer Reading Tutors Trained!      

Twenty five community members, parents, grandparents, and retired Oakview teachers attended the annual Reading Tutor training led by Becky Riddle, Instructional Coach.  These new reading tutors join over 60 returning tutors from previous years in providing one on one support for students in need.  The Oakview community continues to “work as a team” (Oakview Mission Statement) in support of children!

Dictionaries for Third Grade!

                                          

Oakview received a generous donation of dictionaries from the Rotary Club of Simpsonville. Rotary Club members visited each third grade classroom and presented every third grade student with a dictionary.

F3 Fitness Group Gives Back to Oakview!

F3, a community fitness group, has adopted Oakview’s nature trail!  Recently, members of F3 assisted in cutting back and trimming some of the trails to provide better access for students.  Thank you F3 for your support of Oakview Elementary School!            

Oakview Races for the Cure!                                                

Congratulations to the following faculty members who represented Oakview Elementary School by participating in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure on Saturday, September 26! Mrs. Sexton, Mrs. Szynal, Miss Burdick, Mrs. Hallen, Mrs. Miller, Ms. Boone, Ms. McCurry, and Mrs. Crumley.

Dads Volunteer at Oakview!       

Over 550 fathers, grandfathers, students, faculty, and volunteers attended the annual kick off for Watch DOGS (Dads Of Great Students)!  Watch DOGS are dads who take a day off from their regular job and volunteer working with the students at Oakview. 

  

Oakview Receives $3,000 for Archery Instruction!

Oakview P.E. teachers, Jen Miller and Kenny Hall, attended the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources NASP Basic Archery Instructor (BAI) Training over the summer.  They are now certified presenters of NASP® lessons that are safe for students, instructors, bystanders, and the facility.  As a result of their training, Oakview received $3,000 worth of archery equipment!

Volunteer Program Kicks Off!

Hundreds of volunteers attended the Oakview PTA annual Volunteer Breakfast on Friday, August 28!  Parents, grandparents, and community members learned about the many ways they can volunteer at Oakview.
