Oakview Elementary has completed a School Health Index (SHI), an online self-assessment and planning tool supported by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention. The assessment can be used to improve the school’s health and safety policies and programs. Along with completing the online portion of the SHI, we developed a goal for increasing physical activity and improving nutrition at the school. The physical education teachers along with other staff members completed this task prior to the break. I am excited to announce that Oakview will receive $1,000 to spend on the wellness needs of our students and staff. We try each day to create a school environment that promotes healthy eating and healthy living with our daily morning fitness videos, culinary creations healthier lunch menu, physical education classes, jump rope club, flag football club, Girls on the Run, Health and Wellness Night, and Brita water stations, to name a few. We look forward to using these funds to strengthen our program goals in the near future. |
