Director of Athletics Darryl Nance Greenville County Schools Director of Athletics Darryl Nance has been named the recipient of the Frank Kovaleski Professional Development Award. The award is presented by the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (NIAAA). Coach Nance will receive the award on December 12 in Phoenix, Arizona, during the 48th annual National Athletic Directors Conference.

The Frank Kovaleski Professional Development Award is presented each year to an NIAAA member who possesses and has contributed to the vision of professional development – the legacy of Frank Kovaleski – and who has made significant contributions and demonstrated excellence in professional development at the local, state and national levels.

Nance’s career includes service at Shannon Forest Christian School before joining Wade Hampton High School, where he served as basketball coach and athletic director for 19 years. Nance was named director of athletics for the Greenville County Schools two years ago.

Nance led the 2011 Wade Hampton High basketball team to an undefeated season and the state championship. In addition to basketball, Nance coached football, baseball, softball, volleyball and golf.

Coach Nance is a Certified Master Athletic Administrator, awarded by the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association and Certified Interscholastic Coach, awarded by the National Federation of High Schools.

He is a member of the SC Athletic Administrators Association (SCAAA), serving on the Board since 2001 and as President in 2006. He has been recognized with the NIAAA State Award of Merit and has been named the SC Athletic Coaches Association’s Athletic Director of the Year as well as SCACA and NFHS State Basketball Coach of the Year.

Coach Nance is a 1985 graduate of Furman University and a 1992 graduate of the United States Sports Academy.
