Media Specialists Attend Yale InstituteCandace Walton, media specialist at Ralph Chandler Middle School, and Susan Dicey, media specialist at Hillcrest Middle School, were chosen to attend a Gilder Lehrman Institute at Yale University this summer. Thirty educators from across the United States spent a week at Yale exploring Colonial History, perusing original copies of rare books such as Benjamin Franklin's Almanacs, and formulating lesson plans that will be added to the Gilder Lehrman website.

The course, called Everyday Life in Early America, allowed participants to explore central themes and questions relating to everyday life during the colonial period of American history (roughly 1600–1775). The goal was to develop a detailed sense of life on the ground among ordinary folk in this time and place, and the history that remains evident in the natural and built landscape.
