Six GCS band programs earned the Outstanding Performance Award from the South Carolina Band Directors’ Association. They are Blue Ridge High (Eric Wells), Mauldin High (Adam Scheuch and Katherine Laches), Mauldin Middle (Jim Kilgus and Julie Poston), Riverside Middle (Kevin Styles), Riverside High (Quintus Wrighten), and Travelers Rest High (Carl Wylie).

Middle school bands earn points through students earning chairs in the All-Region and All-State Bands, receiving a Superior or Excellent rating at the State Concert Band Assessment, and earning Superior ratings at the Solo and Ensemble event that wrapped up this afternoon.  They must earn at least 45 out of a possible 50 points to qualify for the award.

High School bands have the same three events, plus earning a Superior or Excellent rating at the State Marching Band Championships.  They must earn at least 90 out of a possible 100 points to qualify for the OPA.  They must max out points at either the Marching Championships or Concert Performance Assessment.
