Work Keys LogoNine out of ten GCS juniors earned a National Career Readiness certificate on the ACT WorkKeys assessment, a test that measures essential workforce skills. Students passing the WorkKeys assessment earn a bronze, silver, gold or platinum certificate. In all, 89.7 percent of GCS students earned a bronze certificate or higher, up from 89.2 percent last year.

WorkKeys consists of three sections: Applied Mathematics, Locating Information, and Reading for Information. According to Dr. Jason McCreary, GCS Director of Accountability and Quality Assurance, the ACT WorkKeys test is a more effective measurement of career readiness because it assesses real-world job skills and provides results that are essential to the workplace.

The certificate can assist students with finding part-time or summer jobs, internships and employment. In South Carolina over 1,400 employers recognize the certificate.
