Greenville County Schools SAT Scores Exceed State, National Averages
SAT scores for Greenville County Schools students topped the national and state public school averages in 2016.
The 2016 average composite score for all Greenville seniors was 1483 on the SAT’s 2400-point scale. This score reflects a 20-point increase over last year, and is 30 points higher than the national average of 1453 and 37 points higher than the state average of 1446.
- Nine GCS high schools scored at or above the national and state public school SAT averages: Riverside (1565), Eastside (1551), Mauldin (1518), J. L. Mann (1512), Southside (1512), Wade Hampton (1510), Blue Ridge (1482), Travelers Rest (1457), and Greenville (1455).
- Greenville County ranks among the top districts in the state in the percentage of students taking the SAT, which is used by colleges to help predict how well a student will perform in their freshman year.
- The number of graduating seniors taking the SAT decreased from 2,911 in 2015 to 2,500 in 2016.
Dr. Jason McCreary, Director of Accountability and Quality Assurance for Greenville County Schools said, “While more students now take the ACT, we remain pleased with our progress on the SAT. Greenville County remains one of the highest performing districts in the state and competitive in the nation.”
Earlier this year, Greenville County Schools announced that students outperformed the state average on the American College Test (ACT) with an average score of 19.2 out of a possible 36 points.
