Career Day 2015

On Tuesday, November 24, Hughes Academy students participated in an event called Career Day. This is the event in which students go from classroom to classroom, each one with a person with a different career in it. The students get to learn about a variety of careers, such as a lawyer, artist, veterinarian, teacher, or other career.

Career Day allows students to learn more about different career opportunities and figure out how to obtain the job that they want. If in the future they don’t get the career they want, the information they learned will help them find another career.

One of  the many careers that the students got to learn about was law. Chip Howard was one of the lawyers who visited Hughes on Career Day. Howard is a lawyer who graduated college with a major in Marketing and a minor in Law.

As a lawyer, Howard has the advantage of a flexible schedule and calm work environment. Howard encourages students to “follow their dreams and do what they want to do.”

Another career the students got to learn about was teaching. Laura Luce is one of the many teachers who visited Hughes. Luce is an art teacher and graphic designer. She is responsible for drawing, painting, and teaching art. Luce is also an illustrator of a children's book which can be bought in downtown Greenville today.

Career day offers jobs that some students may or may not have been aware of before. It also opens many doors for students who may or may not be sure of what career they would like to have and it allows students to see the many choices of careers that the world has to offer. Hopefully, Career Day has helped some students get an idea of what they would like to do in the future.
