Magnet Night a Great Success
Hughes Academy is one big family, and we are so excited to welcome more members that will be joining us next year. Dr. Andrew Hooker, Hughes Principal, was happy that “We had lots of students from local schools and schools all over Greenville County.” He was also very happy with the turnout at Magnet Night. Marsha Patry, Magnet Coordinator, thought “it was fabulous, we had a lot of students from all over the district.” Ms. Patry also really loved the students from all over. We had students coming from the Pelzer area and also from places such as Travelers Rest.
We had a great turnout with all the Beta Club members helping around the school. Magnet Night is a great opportunity for the future students to get to know their future teachers. There were a bunch of different people from all schools and some were really looking forward to coming to Hughes Academy next year. Hughes Academy specializes in Science and Technology, but some of the students were very happy to do hands-on experiments and activities with the teachers. I was helping in the Art room and we were making prints on paper. In the math class, the math teachers demonstrated a marble activity with picking the right cup with the right marbles that were in it.
Teachers had Chromebooks out, and the students loved working on them. On the Chromebooks, students worked on blowing up volcanos that teachers had set up for them. Going with your friends and doing really cool activities together made the night especially enjoyable. Sharing the experience with your friends and family will help rising sixth-graders cherish the memories longer. Magnet Night was a blast, and we can’t wait to see who will join us next year!
