Welcome Ms. Tollison
Ms. Tollison is a sixth grade science teacher here at Hughes. She is a teacher that originally worked at Sanders Middle School and Laurens Middle School in Laurens, South Carolina.Moving here this past year to move closer to her daughter and grandkids.
Teaching has always been a piece of her life. She recalls when she was younger asking the teacher for extra worksheets to take home and play “school” with her friends. Ms.Tollison recently taught at a Montessori school in Mauldin. A Montessori school is a school that uses a method of education based on self-directed activity, hands on learning and collaborative play. It lets the children learn and make choices of their own but there are restrictions in the class. Ms.Tollison enjoyed teaching there and taught there for twelve years.
On her journey to Hughes, she attended Greenville Technical college and USC Upstate. While at Greenville Tech, she got her Associate of Arts degree. Then transferred to USC Upstate and graduated Kappa Delta Pi with a Bachelor’s of Arts degree in Elementary Education. Kappa Delta Pi is an International Honor Society in Education it’s membership is limited to the top 20 percent of those entering the field of education. Ms.Tollison also has always had an interest in art. When you walk in her classroom, you may see many paintings she has done.
Her quote for her sixth grade students is “Don’t let a negative person and or vibe bring you down with negative words, because you are the very best you can and will be.”
We welcome Mrs. Tollison to Hughes Academy and we hope she has a wonderful time here at Hughes.
