Students and parents are responsible for reading and understanding the student handbook. The Greenville Middle Academy Student Handbook contains detailed information pertaining to dress code, bell schedules, discipline policies and more.

What time does school start and when does it end? The first bell rings at 8:10 and the tardy bell rings at 8:25 each day. We suggest that students get here by 8:15 so that they have time to get to their classroom. The bell for dismissal rings at 3:15. Students can be dropped off as early as 7:30 and must be picked up by 4:00.
What do students do when they get to school in the morning? All students are able to eat breakfast at no charge. Breakfast is served between 7:30-8:15 each morning. Students will get their breakfast and go to their grade level morning holding area.
How are students dismissed? Car riders are dismissed to the car line when their individual number is entered into the electronic dismissal system. Each family will be provided with a dismissal number that will be required for pick up. Someone on duty in the car line will enter your number and your student will know to come outside. Bus riders are dismissed as their bus arrives. No early dismissals are allowed after 2:30 PM.
What is the ID policy? All students and staff at GMA are required to wear their ID every day. Students will be given an ID and lanyard at no charge at the beginning of the school year. Sixth and seventh grade students must use the lanyard provided by the school. Eighth grade students are allowed to wear a lanyard of choice but will still be given a GMA lanyard. Students must have their IDs on before they walk into the school each day. Students are welcome to purchase an additional ID for $5 as a backup or a replacement. If a student does not come to school with an ID and does not have $5 to purchase a new one, they will be given a temporary ID sticker and will be required to serve lunch detention. After two lunch detentions for not having an ID, students will receive a referral and will be required to serve ISS.
How can parents keep track of homework, assignments and grades? Teachers will use their websites and google classroom to upload notes, rubrics, and other important class information. In addition, Parent Backpack allows you to see teachers’ gradebook information and attendance records for your student. Steps for creating a Parent Backpack account can be found on the GMA website.
What is the best way to get in touch with my student’s teachers? The easiest way to get in touch with teachers is through email. You can find the teachers’ email addresses by going to the school website and clicking on “Staff” and then selecting your student’s grade level. Each teacher does have an individual phone number, but is unable to answer it during the day. If you’d like to have a meeting with your student’s teachers, please reach out to your grade level counselor who can help arrange a conference.
What is the cell phone policy? All electronic devices (phones, smart watches, etc.) are to be turned off and put in the student's locker from 8:25-3:15. Students are not allowed to use them during the day. If you need to get in touch with your student, you are welcome to call the front office to have a message delivered. Students are able to call a parent by using the phone in the front office or classroom, if needed.
When will students get their Chromebooks? At the beginning of the school year, every student will be issued a Chromebook to use as their personal learning device for the year. Students are responsible for charging their Chromebook each time and bringing it to school each day. Additional information about Chromebooks can be found by visiting the GMA Chromebook website.
