Dear parents,

We are so excited to begin a new school year with your student! This is a wonderful and busy time for our students, parents and teachers. As we approach our new year, we have developed a list of important information and dates below to help you navigate this new adventure:

MEET THE TEACHERS: Our teachers return to work on August 9. Beginning on August 9, they will call each of the families on their rosters to set up individual or small group “meet the teacher” conferences. This will allow our students and families to see the school, classrooms and ask questions in a calm, quiet setting. These meetings will be held before the first day of school.

SUPPLY LISTS: The Child Development Centers do not have a supply list of required materials. We do ask you to send in a WHITE bath towel for your child to use during quiet time and a change of clothes in case of accident/spill.

BOOK BAGS: The Child Development Centers will provide each student with a CDC book bag. We ask that you child use this bag as it is easy for them to get materials in and out (we are working on independence!) and this bag also helps teachers/bus drivers identify our students as CDC children.

BUS TRANSPORTATION: Bus transportation will begin on Monday, August 22 for 4K students who have been routed and contacted by transportation. Special Education bus riders will begin bus transportation the first day of school.

CAR LINES: The car lines at the CDCs will be SLOW but SAFE for the first week or so.  We are committed to providing a safe line and ensuring that the correct child is safely placed in the correct car each day. Here is how you can help: please put your student pick up card in the front window each day. You must have this card to pick up your child from the car line- there are no exceptions. All children must be picked up the first week using the car line- NO STUDENTS WILL BE DISMISSED FROM THE FRONT DOORS OR OFFICE for safety purposes. If you forget your card, you will need to park and come into the office with ID for a new one but you will be required to get in the car line to pick up your student. Once the buses begin on August 22, the car line wait time is dramatically reduced. Thank you for your patience and understanding!

DISTRICT FORMS: At your meet the teacher meeting, each teacher will have forms that must be completed. Please make sure that we have the correct address and contact numbers to get in touch with you in case of an emergency.

MEDICINE: If you student takes medicine, the nurse will provide you with a form to complete. Please do not send medicine to school with your child without the proper forms as we are not able to give it to them.

EARLY DISMISSALS: Our goal is to make the most of each moment with your child and to provide a safe, supervised environment. Beginning at 1:45 PM, all staff are engaged with bus dismissal and preparing car riders for dismissal. We need to focus on correctly tagging and staging the children. For this reason, please do not request an early dismissal after 1:45 PM for safety concerns.

SCHOOL SCHEDULE:

Tuesday, August 16: FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL! Welcome! School begins at 8:00 AM. Doors open at 7:30 AM. You may walk your child to their classroom for the first week of school.

Tuesday, August 16 through Friday, August 19: HALF DAY for students: Dismissal begins at 11:30 AM. 4K students must be picked up using the car line.

Monday, August 22: First full day of school! Car line dismissal begins at 2:30 PM. Bus riding students dismiss at 1:45 PM to go the elementary schools for routing.

Remember, you must have your student pick up tag to pick up your student in the car line and to get your child from the bus! They will not be permitted to exit the bus without an adult at the stop with the correct student pick up tag. Bus riders will be returned to the elementary school you are zoned for if there is not an adult at the stop with the tag- they are NOT returned to the CDCs.

And finally, the most important thing to remember is that we are here to help! We understand that this time of year can be overwhelming and stressful but please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. We are confident that this will be a wonderful year together!

Sincerely,

Dr. Susan Stevens
