National Awards

National PTA certified Cone Primary/Sans Souci Intermediate School as a 2002-2006 Parent Involvement School of Excellence.  National PTA's Parent Involvement Schools of Excellence certification program recognizes schools that uphold the highest standards in parent involvement and that help meet parent involvement provisions in the 2001 Elementary and Secondary Education Act, reauthorized as the No Child Left Behind Act.  Cone Primary/Sans Souci Intermediate School was one of only four schools in South Carolina to achieve this award.

South Carolina Department of Education Award

Cone Primary / Sans Souci Intermediate earned the status as a "South Carolina 2003 Red Carpet School." This is an award presented by the State Department of Education that recognizes schools with outstanding family-friendly environments. Winning schools receive red carpets with the state seal to display in their lobbies.

Schools were judged on a variety of factors, including the exterior and interior appearance of the campus, the manner in which persons were treated in person and over the telephone, and the information and programs available for families and visitors.  When making the announcement about the winning schools, State Superintendent of Education, Inez Tenenbaum said “These schools provide inviting environments where visitors are not only welcome, but where parents and community members are actively involved in the school’s decision-making process."  Tenenbaum also stated, “Schools understand than an environment where parents feel comfortable and empowered to be actively involved is directly related to increased student learning and academic success.  Red Carpet Schools incorporate this emphasis into their overall environment every day.”
