RCMS Welcomes Our New Principal, Mr. Jeff Jenkins
Dear Ralph Chandler students, parents, staff, and community,
It is with great excitement that I introduce myself as the next principal of Ralph Chandler Middle School. Ms. Mantooth has made it her mission to open, guide, and build an exceptional school for the good of students and the betterment of the community. I am very thankful that I will have the opportunity to work alongside her over the coming weeks and months as this transition begins to unfold. I plan to do everything possible to build upon the proud legacy that Ms. Mantooth leaves. I imagine that this transition is creating some anxiety and anticipation for the Ralph Chandler community and I would like to take a few moments to provide a little insight into who I am.
Growing up in a small town in central Florida, my parents instilled in me a strong sense of empathy and an understanding that my words and actions should always be honorable. I have a son who will be turning three in May and a wife who is a Media Specialist within Greenville County Schools. My wife and son represent the best part of my life and I wake up every day hoping that I make them proud.
I began my teaching career at Riverside Middle School here in Greenville County where I spent eight years in the classroom as a sixth and seventh grade social studies teacher. It was there that I began developing my commitment to student-centered learning. I came to understand that, as educators, relationships were at the heart of our interactions with students and families. I left Riverside to become an assistant administrator at Northwest Middle. I spent several years there working to develop as a leader and had the good fortune to learn from a strong principal. Most recently, I serve at Fisher Middle School, once again being privileged to serve with an excellent principal, and where I have been part of growing a STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) and project-based learning curriculum.
I believe strongly in the power of connected learning. I think that when students see the connection between what they learn and how it applies to real-world situations they gain deeper understanding and become more engaged and active learners. I look forward to making connections with the students, staff, parents, and the greater community as we work together to continue the tradition of excellence at Ralph Chandler Middle.
I fully understand that each and every day we are given a tremendous amount of responsibility to provide a safe and educational environment for the students in our daily care. I am committed to the growth and success of Ralph Chandler Middle, and I look forward to getting to know all of you.
