A Visit from Dandy the Therapy Dog
We had a wonderful visit Friday from Grandma Coco and Yankee Doodle Dandy.
1. She shared about her career on the morning show.
She also shared that she felt reading is a very important skill to have in future careers.
2. Then she travelled to Kindergarten through 2nd grade classrooms. (Mrs. Deatcher's class also enjoyed her presentation and visiting the dog.)
*She talked about how her reading disability (dyslexia) caused her to feel sad, but she didn't give up. As she persevered she learned to become a strong reader.
Students enjoyed reading to Dandy and petting the therapy dog.
3. Coco (Mrs. Rankin) met with the ESOL teachers and Dr. Huddleston regarding providing homemade bears and books for the children to take home with them ...
Mrs. Rankin makes the bears at NO COST to us.
The premise is for the children to read to the bear ... the bear has stitched words "Read to Me" on the bottom of one of his paws.
