Eastside Sweeps 4A State Swim Titles

The Eastside Boys Swim team won their fourth straight State Championship, scoring 566.50 points, nearly 250 more points than runner-up North Augusta.  The Eagles Girls Swim team made it a Class AAAA sweep for the second year in a row as they scored 521.50 to defeat Hilton Head Island (373).  Once again the Eagles dominated spots up and down each event, with swimmers placing higher than projected in a total team effort for the boys and girls.  Both the girls and boys 200 Medley Relay teams grabbed 3rd place finishes in the first event.  Riley Parker came out and won the first individual event, the 200 Freestyle, with a time of 1:52.17.  Riley followed that up by winning the 100 Free later in the meet.  Caroline Parker placed 3rd and Madeline Snell 7th in the 200.  In the boys 200 Free, Luke Smith placed 3rd and Sam Wingard (8th) and EJ Sajous (9th) both grabbed top 10 finishes.  Kramer Dawson won the boys 200 IM and Joseph Brooks placed 4th.  Hayden Penny (5th) and Isabelle Crews (9th) grabbed top ten times in the girls IM.  Ella Penny (2nd) and Casey Harrison (4th tie) earned top five finishes in the 50 Free girls race and Carson Donovan (6th) and Luke Northcutt (8th) grabbed top ten times in the boys 50.  Cara Bognar added 1st place finishes in the 100 Butterfly and 500 Freestyle.  Isabelle Crews (8th) and Elizabeth Barr (9th) added top ten times in the Butterfly.  Brady Cawthon placed 3rd in the Butterfly for the boys and 4th in the 100 Backstroke.  Casey Harrison (6th) and Dawson Kramer (4th) added top ten finishes in the girls and boys 100 Free.  Caroline Parker (3rd), Madeline Snell (5th) and Hayden Penny (7th) added top ten finishes in the 500 Free behind Bognar's 1st place finish.  In the boys 500, Luke Smith (2nd), Dudley Dakota (6th) and Nils Bognar (7th) added top ten times.  The girls 200 relay placed 2nd and the boys team 3rd.  Ella Penny placed 3rd in the 100 Backstroke and Brady Cawthone, Nils Bognar and Daim Weaver went 4-5-6 in the boys 100 Backstroke.  Joseph Brooks placed 3rd in the 100 Breaststroke to close out his incredible career at Eastside.  The Eagles closed the 4A meet out with a pair of victories in the girls and boys 400 Freestyle Relay.  Cara Bognar, Caroline Parker, Ella Penny and anchor Riley Parker swam 3:36.62 to win the girls race.  Brady Cawthon, Dakota Dudley, Dawson Kramer and Luke Smith swam 3:14.21 to claim the boys title.

Anna Havens Rice of Greenville High added two more individual state titles to her impressive collection.  Rice won her third straight 200 Individual Medley and added a title in the 100 Breaststroke.  The Greenville Girls Swim team placed 5th overall.  Lillian Hall added a top five finish in the 100 Butterfly and the Raiders 200 Medley Relay team of Lillian Hall, Anna Havens Rice, Isabella Hall and Mercer Eaddy finished in 4th place.

On Saturday, Class 5A took the pool and Riverside Girls Swim earned a 2nd place finish, while the Warriors Boys Swim team placed 3rd overall.  JL Mann boys placed 4th, followed by Mauldin in a tie for 8th and Wade Hampton earned a top 15 spot.  The Wade Hampton girls placed tied for 9th, Mann 11th and Mauldin 15th.

Riverside girls got 1st place finishes from Hannah Ownbey in the 200 IM and 100 Breaststroke.  Emily Horomanski took 1st in the 100 Butterfly and 2nd in the 100 Backstroke.  The Warriors 200 Freestyle Relay team of Emily Horomanski, Paris Christie, Katy Rose Snover and Hannah Ownbey took 1st place and the 400 relay team placed 2nd overall.  JL Mann's Lauren Murray won the 500 Freestyle event ahead of Wade Hampton's Audra McSharry. McSharry also grabbed a 4th place finish in the 200 Freestyle.  Mauldin's Bella Kelly added a top five finish in the 200 Free.  Woodmont's Campbell McCarthy placed 5th in the Individual Medley.

Riverside's Michael Juengel added state titles in the 200 Free, 100 Backstroke and as part of the Riverside Boys 200 and 400 Relay with Kai Van Den Bosch, Cope Viney and Christopher Meier.  Meier also won the 200 IM and placed 5th in the 100 Backstroke. Van den Bosch placed 4th in the 50 Free.  JL Mann took 4th in the Medley Relay and the Patriots Bruce Bannister won an individual title in the 100 Breaststroke and placed 3rd in the 200 IM.  Wade Hampton's Luke Griner earned a 4th place finish in the 100 Butterfly and Mauldin's Alex Brodsky earned a top five spot in the 200 Free.
