2018 High School Football

The 2018 high school football season is set to kick-off on Friday, August 17th.  Ten GCS teams will take the field Friday night in non-region action.

Blue Ridge Tigers at Landrum Cardinals: Blue Ridge has a new head coach, James Thurn, and will open their season on the road at Landrum.  The Tigers are young and adapting to Coach Thurn's new system.  Blue Ridge defeated Landrum in 2017.

Carolina Trojans at St Joseph's Knight:  New head coach Will Owens knows he has to be patient with his young team and teach them how to win.  The Trojans will compete in the very difficult Region 2-AAA this year.

Eastside Eagles vs Southside Tigers:  The Tigers also open a new era under head coach Jeremy West.  Southside has a dangerous threat in QB Jalon Calhoun, who has committed to continue his playing career at Georgia Tech next fall.  The Eagles are coming off one of their best seasons in recent history.  Eastside made it to the third round of the 2017 playoffs before falling to eventual champion South Pointe.  The Eagles have a huge hole to fill at QB, but playmaker Payton Mangrum and Reggie Rodgers return and should keep Eastside's offense flying high.

Greenville Red Raiders vs Woodmont Wildcats:  Greenville lost more than 20 seniors to graduation.  The Young Raiders will look to University of Pittsburgh commit, QB Davis Beville, to be the centerpiece of a young, but talented offense.  Woodmont enters its second season under head coach Jet Turner.  The Wildcats run an intricate option attack run scheme and look to be much improved in year two in the system.

Greer Yellow Jackets at Byrnes Rebels:  The Rebels got the best of the Jackets in last years border war.  Greer must replace Shrine Bowl athlete Qua White, but they return a talented team lead by QB Treyvion Houston.  Dre Williams is a weapon out of the backfield and Braxton Collins, committed to Old Dominion, has the ability to stretch defenses on the outside.

Riverside Warriors vs Travelers Rest Devildogs:  Riverside opens a new era under coach Rick Martin.  Martin has a young team and will compete in a tough Region 2-AAAAA conference this season.  TR returns some of its top playmakers from '17, including WR Derrick Fields.  The Devildogs look to avenge last seasons opening week defeat to the Warriors.

Wade Hampton Generals vs Dorman Cavaliers:  There will be no easing into the season for the Generals as 2017 state runner-up Dorman visits Wade Hampton.  The Generals will be starting a new QB in junior Cason Whitmire.  Wade Hampton will rely on senior Trey Berry and a strong ground game to control the clock vs the explosive Cavaliers.
