GCS Middle School Spring Playoffs

The 2018 middle school spring sports regular season has come to a close and teams in baseball, softball and boys and girls soccer are set for the GCS Middle School Playoffs!
Bryson Middle enters the baseball playoffs as the lone unbeaten, compiling a 10-0 (7-0) record during the regular season to win the South Division. They will host 2-seed out of the East Division, Sevier Middle. The Falcons finished 7-3-1 (6-1-1), one game behind division champion Northwest Middle. The Panthers will host Mauldin, who went 3-2-2 in division play to just edge their way into the playoff picture. In the East Division, one game separated 1st and 2nd place with the League Academy Bulldogs (7-3) edging out the Fisher Firebirds (6-4). With the top seed, League will host Riverside Middle (7-2-2). Fisher will travel to Northwood, who put up an impressive 8-2 regular season.
In softball, two teams completed undefeated regular seasons. Ralph Chandler went 10-0 (8-0) to win the South, while Blue Ridge went 11-0 (8-0) to claim the North. Ralph Chandler will host Sevier Middle (10-1, 7-1) who finished tied atop the West Division, but lost the tiebreaker to Northwest Middle. Blue Ridge will host League (2-4 in division), who grabbed a playoff spot after last years defending champions, Beck Academy, had to withdraw from the tournament as many of their athletes will be out of town for a school field trip during the playoffs. Beck won the East with a 5-1 region mark. With Beck out, Fisher slides into the top spot in the East and will host 9-2 Riverside in the opening round. Northwest, by virtue of winning the tiebreaker over Sevier, will host 9-2 Woodmont Middle.
On the pitch, the girls soccer playoffs feature three unbeaten teams. 11-0 Sevier ran away with the West Division. The Falcons open at home vs Ralph Chandler who went an impressive 10-1-0, but finished 2ndto Mauldin in the South Division. The Mustangs finished 9-1-1 and will host Northwest Middle. In a tightly contested East Division, League Academy (8-0-1) edged out Beck Academy (7-2-1). The Bulldogs will face North Division runner-up Riverside (6-3-1). Beck will travel to undefeated Greenville Middle Academy (10-0-0).
On the boys side, a 3-way tie between Berea Middle, Lakeview Middle and Tanglewood Middle left a jumbled mess in the West Division. By virtue of goals against in division (the 3rdtie-breaker) Berea (7-2-2) takes the top seed. Berea will host Ralph Chandler (7-2-1). Lakeview (6-3-0) edged out Tanglewood on the 5thtie-breaker to get into the playoffs. The Lions will travel to 7-4 Hillcrest Middle. Riverside Middle and Greenville Middle Academy met twice this season, both games ending in a tie (2-2, 0-0). They have identical 8-0-2 overall records and 6-0-2 division records. The Royals edged Greenville in a 7-6 PK tie-breaker to grab the 1-seed and home playoff game. Riverside will host Hughes Academy (6-2-2), while the Rams will travel to Beck Academy (9-0-1).
