GCS High School Athletics Preview - Week of 12/04
Eastside wrestling got off to a great start for their 2017-18 campaign as they placed 4th overall at Southern Slam. The Eagles hosted the event and were the top finishing team from South Carolina. Two big Ram tournaments this coming weekend as both Hillcrest and Westside host invitationals featuring teams from across the area.
In middle school basketball, the Blue Ridge girls picked up right where they left off last year as the defending county champions are off to a 2-0 start. They have a big game on Monday as they host also unbeaten Greenville Middle Academy. The Greenville boys team is also off to a hot start, 2-0 while averaging 76 points a game!
Every team has now dipped their toe in the water as all 14 GCS schools have started their 2017-18 campaign. Travelers Rest boys moved to 2-0 with a win over rival Berea. Defending state champs, the Southside boys are also off to a 2-0 start, they'll host AAAAA Mauldin on Friday. Southside will be the second defending state champion the Mavs face in their opening three games as Mauldin opened at Dorman. The Mavs host Eastside on Tuesday, all the Eagles did last year was reach the AAAA Upper State Finals. In girls action, Greenville and Wade Hampton were expected to be contenders this season and early on they look the part. Greenville is off to a 2-0 start and will travel to Christ Church on Tuesday. Wade Hampton defeated rival Eastside to open their season last Friday. The two teams will go at it again on Friday at Eastside.
