SCHSL Cross Country Championship Recap

Last year Riverside Girls Cross Country won their fourth straight state title with seniors Cate Ambrose, Abigail Smith, Mikie Harris and Ashley Fallow all securing top 15 times and All-State recognition.  Despite all the talent lost to graduation, the Warriors once again dominated the Sandhills course, amassing 63 points to claim their 5th straight title.  They beat 2nd place JL Mann by 30 points.  Sophomore Jessie Crowley, who won this race as an 8th grader, ran a 19:02 to finish 6th overall and lead the way for the Warriors team.  8th graders Katherine and Elizabeth Rogers finished 10th and 20th.  Laura MacGregor placed 11th and Kayla Harris 16th.  The Warriors were so deep that 2016 All-State runners Carter Marchbanks and Anna Yang didn't figure in the scoring (top 5 for each team) in this years race.

JL Mann finished 2nd in the Girls AAAAA race behind Riverside.  Morgan Moseley ran 18:50 to finish 3rd overall and 7th grader Kennedy Roush finished 14th to earn All-State honors.  Rebecca Ward finished top 20, leading Wade Hampton to 5th place finish and Mauldin's Macey Morgan (8th) and Ellie Wood (13th) both earned All-State honors as they led the Mavericks to a 6th place finish.  Hillcrest's Camille Egbula (12th) and Woodmont's Emma DeRoberts (17th) both ran in the top 20.

In the boys Class AAAAA team competition, the Riverside boys just missed out on a repeat title as the fell to Dorman 88 to 87.  Andrew Castano (4th), Harper Harris(8th), Marlin Young(15th) and Spencer Schwalm(20th) all finished with top 20 times.  Lucas Conti placed 5th overall to lead the Hillcrest team to an 8th place finish, followed by Mauldin at 9th behind Charlie Hyman's 13th place finish to earn All-State honors.

The Eastside boys came up just short in Class AAAA as well.  The Eagles got top 20 runs from Noah White, who finished 2nd overall, Luc Sanchez(12th), Grayson Martin(14th) and Paul Widsor(17th).  Stephen Elliot rounded out the scoring finishing just outside the top 20 at 21st, but the Eagles fell five points short of Hilton Head who placed three runners in the top 5 overall.  Greer's Coen Roberts 3rd place finish helped secure the Yellow Jackets team a 3rd place finish.  Jacob Scudder also ran in the top 20 overall placing 19th.  Blue Ridge, with only five runners had zero room for error and the Tigers got top 20 finishes from Kyle Thompson(10th), Austin Lane(13th), and Barrett Broome(15th) to finish in 4th place.

Madison Ellis(7th), Olivia Henn(12th) and Cara Bognar(14th) all earned All-State honors as they led the Eastside girls team to a 3rd place finish in Class AAAA.  Travelers Rest finished 7th, Blue Ridge 9th and Greer 10th in the team standings.  Greer 8th grader Taylor Houston earned All-State with her 8th place overall finish.

In Class AAA, Southside's Dan Whitten ran a 17:13 to place 7th overall and earn All-State honors as he led the Tigers to 7th in the team standings.  The Southside girls team finished 11th overall and Raven Stewart finished 19th with a time of 21:32.
